“You’ve Got a Friend” by Carole King and recorded by James Taylor really spoke to me recently, and now I’m listening to it as a prayer, as if Jesus is singing it to me! Take a listen: https://youtu.be/xEkIou3WFnM.

My husband and I saw the Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco and enjoyed it so much that he got me Carole King and James Taylor Live at the Troubadour as a birthday present. When we listened to it as we drove a few hours last Thursday, I felt transported.

I’d once spent a day with James Taylor back in the 70s, showing him Connecticut real estate, and I even heard him and Carly Simon sing “You Are My Sunshine” to their daughter Chastity as we drove around that day! All the memories of that special day came flooding back. Knowing I was going to fly to a Holy Spirit conference for the weekend, I commented on the lyrics to “You’ve Got a Friend,” telling my husband that these could be Jesus’s words to us. At the conference, we didn’t hear the same melody or lyrics, but this message of friendship with someone you can always count on to be there and to love you was loud and strong! Someone who’d lay down his life for you and help you face whatever the day brings, every day!
